Overview

This is a pleasant and easy route. It will the pass through the village of Firbeck, home to a former second world war airbase, then through the medieval villages of Letwell, Carlton in Lindrick and the hamlet of Scofton.  Cross over the Chesterfield canal to then walk alongside the bank to Worksop.

Walk Description :

stage 9 photo1 - From Le Roche Abbey take the footpath to the left of the Abbey, and continue into the field which will lead to a small lane.  Turn right, and then half way up the small incline take the footpath left to pass a farm on the left. At the end of this track turn left, the path will turn right round a field before crossing over another path. Continue ahead at that point. Take the next path left, not in to the woods. Again the path will turn right around a field, take the second left path and bear right at the corner of the houses to come to the road in the village of Firbeck.

stage 9 photo 2 - In Firbeck turn right and then left to take the road to Letwell opposite the church and then after the last house take the footpath on the right through fields.  Cross over the lane and across the cor-ner of the field. Cross the next road and the next lane and then turn left to follow the path around two fields fields following well marked footpaths to arrive at Buckwood Farm.

stage 9 photo3 - Cross over the road and continue down the bridleway.  Just before the woods turn left to follow the forest boundary fence and then cross over the lane and then right into the woods ( can be boggy ). At the path junction turn left to emerge at Carlton Church, carry straight on to reach the main road A60.

stage 9 photo4 - Turn right here and then take the road left to Wigthorpe.  Ignore the turning into the village and shortly after take a footpath right ( access to Wigthorpe Hill Barn ) through several fields to reach the B6045 at Hundred Acre Woods.  Cross over and follow the bridleway to the end, and then bear right on the tarmac bridleway.  This will take you to the village of Scofton. Walk through Scofton to reach the Chesterfield canal. Pass over the canal bridge and right onto the tow path at Osberton  Lock / Cuckoo Way.

5 - Follow this to the edge to Bace Bridge Lock at Worksop and the end of the stage.
